I find it so great to see fashion designers like Oscar de le Rentee taking inspiration from the hijab in their fashion designs. Note these pictures from Oscar's Spring 2010 collection, not quite hijab, but loveley dresses, nedless to say.

Here's is also a video i found, of other designers putting their own interpretation on the headscarf, in their recent collections. Some strikingly similar to the hijab and others way off.

October 28th, is the day hijabi's, put on their prettiest pink hijab in support of breast cancer awareness and research. Pink Hijab Day is intended to shatter stereotypes of Muslim women, as well as raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. All over the world, Muslim women particpate by wearing pink hijabs (Global Pink Hijab Day).

Here are some pictures of Pink Hijab Day, celebrated by our universities MSA (Muslim student association):

"...When I was about 7 or 8 I asked my mother this question of why we cover, and to my surprise she responded with, "Let's go shopping". So we headed out to the mall and passed by a few stores, we went into Claire's and saw all the beaded jewelry and the fake crystals all lying around in piles in the store. Some people touched them, some people picked them up then put them back down, some people tried them on, and most of them were not even noticed. Then we went to a diamond store. There, we saw only a few select pieces of jewelry. Rare stones, hidden under glass containers. Sealed with the highest security systems. Kept protected from the hands of those who couldn't pay the price of handling them. My mother looked at me and said, "Which would you rather be?"

Hey girls, back to school is here!!!
In our previous post we showed you outfits for B2S for fall.
This post will include the latest trends in fall/winter fashion, that are muslimah/hijabi appropriate!

This season their are a couple of trends we identified, that are worthy of following...

1.) Boyfriend jacket

First the boyfriend jacket, I know what your thinking “WHAT” thats not very hijab or muslimah, but it is, girls it is!!! The jackets are well structured, their not tight or form fitting, their loose and comfortable. If your having trouble calling them boyfriend jackets, call them your bros jacket.

This summer the two of us, had the opportunity of attending our first “REAL” fashion show. An Islamic fashion line created by Hiba Dahir and Ayan Farah. Whose goal with their collection is “Reviving Islamic Elegance”.

At the time of Muslim Spain Islamic clothing was the fashionable thing to be wearing; even non Muslims would dress like Muslim teens. Our line is here to revive that sense of majesty and timeless elegance that is in Islam. We at L&K have done extensive research and have come up with a collection that is here to set trends and not follow them. Our designs are meant for everyday life from school to work, from running errands to an evening out.

The abaya often deemed the ‘little black dress’ for muslimahs is the concept for their line, transforming abaya’s from something simple to something practical, fashion forward and elegant. We were definitely impressed by the innovative designs the girls created and egger to purchase their abayas.

Below are pictures from their Fall 2009 collection of abayas... L&K

Here is a great article from New York Magazine: The Cut of how fashion designers John Galliano, Carolina Herrera, and Nina Ricci, are taking inspiration from the abaya in there latest runway designs; in light of the ban of the burqa in France

Last week, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said full-body veils, like burkas some Muslim women wear over their clothes, are "not welcome" in France. Four days later, the George V Hotel in Paris hosted a fashion show consisting entirely of designer abayas. John Galliano designed the abaya worn by the red-haired model who opened the show by riding down the runway on a white horse. Twenty models followed wearing abayas by Nina Ricci, Blumarine, and Alberta Ferretti, among others.

**Lastly make sure, you are wearing a t-shirt, or tank-top underneath the maxi dress, if your wearing it with a jacket or cardigan with it, as many maxi's have deep neck lines, that will show, when your hijab blows in the wind!**

Celebs are loving the Maxi dress (that's what they are called just in case you didn't know) and
so are we!!

Reason's why we love them:

1.This look is perfect for those hot summer days when you don't feel like layering or wearing your black Abaya.

2.Take's only a couple seconds to put on, on those days when you accidentally sleep in and can't find something to wear.

3.They are Oh-so comfy.

4. They come in different colours and prints.

5.Always going to be in style for a Hijabi.

4.And last but not least they are HIJABI FRIENDLY!

So what's not to love about the Maxi dress <3.
